The Truth About Supplements
Why iFits Encourages Natural, Ancestral Approaches to Fitness
🌿 Our Philosophy
At iFits, we believe in the power of natural, time-tested methods for building strength and achieving fitness goals. We do not promote or encourage the use of any supplements. Instead, we advocate for the ancestral approach to fitness that has built warriors, athletes, and strong individuals for thousands of years.
🏋️ The Ancestral Way
Our ancestors built incredible physiques without protein powders, pre-workouts, or any modern supplements. They relied on:
- Whole Foods: Natural proteins from dal, paneer, eggs, milk, and lean meats
- Traditional Indian Diet: Ghee, almonds, walnuts, dates, and seasonal fruits
- Ayurvedic Wisdom: Ashwagandha, Shatavari, and other herbs in their natural form
- Consistent Training: Regular physical activity and progressive overload
⚔️ Army Training Philosophy
The Indian Army produces some of the fittest individuals in the world without relying on supplements. Their approach focuses on:
Physical Training
- • Early morning runs and PT
- • Bodyweight exercises
- • Obstacle courses
- • Swimming and endurance training
Nutrition
- • Balanced mess food
- • High protein dal and vegetables
- • Fresh fruits and milk
- • No supplements required
🥛 Natural Protein Sources
You don't need expensive protein powders. Here are traditional Indian foods rich in protein:
Eggs
6g protein per egg
Paneer
18g protein per 100g
Chana/Chickpeas
19g protein per 100g
Milk & Curd
3-4g protein per 100ml
Dal/Lentils
9g protein per 100g
Almonds
21g protein per 100g
⚠️ Why We Don't Recommend Supplements
The supplement industry is built on the promise of shortcuts — but real, lasting fitness has no shortcuts. Before you spend money on powders and pills, here's why we believe your kitchen is a better investment than the supplement aisle:
- Unknown Long-term Effects: Many supplements have never been studied for years-long, daily use. What seems harmless today may carry risks that only surface much later — and you become the experiment.
- Quality & Purity Concerns: The industry is loosely regulated. Independent tests routinely find products that don't match their label — under-dosed actives, heavy metals, or fillers — and some are contaminated with undeclared stimulants or banned substances that can fail a drug test or harm your health.
- Unnecessary Expense: Whole foods deliver the same protein, vitamins, and minerals at a fraction of the cost. A month of dal, eggs, milk, and seasonal vegetables costs less than a single tub of protein — and feeds your whole family, not just your workout.
- Dependency & False Confidence: Relying on products builds a habit around the product instead of the discipline. It also creates a false sense that the supplement is "doing the work," when results actually come from training, sleep, and consistent eating.
- They Mask a Poor Diet: A scoop of powder is often used to paper over skipped meals and junk food. Fix the diet first and most "needs" for supplements simply disappear.
- Missing the Bigger Picture: Whole foods come packaged with fibre, healthy fats, antioxidants, and dozens of micronutrients working together. Isolated supplements strip nutrients out of that context — you get the headline ingredient and lose everything around it.
- Marketing Over Evidence: Most claims are driven by influencer hype and bold packaging, not solid science. "Mass gainers," "fat burners," and "test boosters" promise dramatic results that real research rarely supports.
- Possible Side Effects: High-dose powders and stimulant-based products can cause digestive upset, disturbed sleep, raised heart rate, and added strain on the kidneys and liver — especially when taken in excess or stacked together.
Note: A few people may need a specific supplement for a diagnosed deficiency or medical reason — that's a decision for a qualified doctor or dietitian, not a marketing ad. For the healthy majority, real food wins.
